In 1855, Yukinori Sanada opened the Bunbu School. It was the domain school for the sons and vassals of the Matsushiro domain. In the era it was a school where Chinese literature and philosophy, Japanese national history, swordsmanship, and archery were taught, including advanced education incorporating Western medicine and gunnery.
It is one of the rare buildings that still remain today as original in Japan. You can actually experience ancient martial arts and archery in dojos that convey the atmosphere of the time. (reservation required)
