Jozan Yamadera was deeply trusted by the 8th lord of Matsushiro, Yukitsura Sanada. He served as a temple shogunate and county magistrate for the clan government. In his later years, he opened a school in Nagano and tried to educate pupils. The style of the front gate is a so-called Nagayamon, and it is the longest one in Matsushiro. It gives you the image of a samurai residence. The garden is spectacular and is a National Registered Monument. There is a free place to sit and relax, and is used as a gallery or multi-purpose space.
